    Huge Pike Report

Having just rewired my boat with new nav. lights and an updated fuse panel + an engine tune-up and fresh coat of paint; figured a trip out to one of the only reservoirs in SW Ontario where you could go for a rip with the big motor would be in order.

Took my 7 year old son along as he is now able to help with launching and trailering. Quiet at the launch, hardly any other boats on the lake and some beautiful August weather. This lake we were on is filled with hammer handle sized pike... usually we grab a dozen large creek chub minnows and hook them through the upper lip with a northland chrome 1/4 oz jighead then add a stinger hook. Toss this close to weed beds and the pike hammer the bait before it hits bottom. I usually cast it for Owen since he has yet got the baitcaster dialled in. I spotted a large snapping turtle and thought it would be funny to cast near it and see if he landed a TMNT. Chucked the bait in that direction and handed him the rod and BAM !!! this happened...

I kind of feel guilty holding up this fish because technically I didn't catch it... but regardless it's a beauty fish and one of many great memories both of us will have on the water.

    Bobby that is absolutely fantastic!

Firstly, I must say the ol boat pushes along quite nicely. Is that a 30HP mercury?

Secondly (and most importantly) that is a beauty Pike. It is awesome to be able to share that with your kids. My son has the same reactions when he reels in nice fish. He just hasn't been lucky enough to reel in a 36" pike yet though.
That was real fun to watch. Thanks for sharing that with us.

Thirdly, most would not have noticed but I did. A little off topic but my son and I love RC's. What size of boat is that you have there? It is hard to tell the model as there are only a few quick flashes.

Early 90s 50HP merc... needs a stingray hydrofoil to be honest.
The R/C boat is just a cheap New Bright one we bought him the previous summer. More of a toy...

...and Willy. Thanks, Owen shares my passion for fishing and he's an easy kid to spend time with on the riverbank or in a boat or ice hut. He is also easily on pace to be a far better fisherman than me. I'm okay with that though...
That gun you are holding in your profile picture looks identical to one that I have a picture of a close friend shooting at one of the open range days near London. He said it was a custom 50 cal... looks badass.
